Always a gardener, Jen learned about seed libraries in 2017 and opened one in Erin 2 months later. The goal of the seed library is to help more people to grow their own food, by reducing the barriers of seed cost and availability. The seeds are given free, with the hope that people will return some of their new seeds in the fall. https://erinseedlendinglibrary.weebly.com/ Creating this community connection has lead to so many fantastic events: - Seedy Saturday events every year since, even a preorder drive through during the pandemic! -Seed talks at schools and seed boxes going out to classrooms and schools, 45 in 2022! -Seed boxes in other communities - Shelburne, Hillsburgh and at Wastewise in Georgetown -Seed photo contests -Receiving the citizen of the year award in 2018 for the seed library, teaching garden work and her daycare -Being asked to cut the ribbon to open the Erin fall fair in 2018 -Receiving an award from the Environmental Sustainability Advisory Committee in 2019 Other community endeavors include -volunteering to maintain the teaching gardens at EPS for the last 8 years -volunteering since 2019 to be vice chair on the board of Wastewise in Georgetown, a waste diversion second hand charity store, who's benefits go to environmental causes such as funding school gardens. -volunteering since 2020 as editor and publisher of Erin Ontario News email newsletter -volunteering since 2021 on the Environment and Sustainability Advisory Committee of Erin -Through ESAC, Jen has helped organize town clean up days -Through ESAC Jen has helped in 2022 to organize Erin's Earth Day and also World Environment Day - Through the Erin Garden Club, Jen has helped organize plant sales for the last few years.
